Week One of the NFL season is one of those little quirks of the fall where grown, sane adults all of a sudden get very stupid. After spending the past few months, getting ready and excited about the season they lose all perspective. A team lost the first weekend? The world has ended and their season is over. Some team that was supposed to be bad, looked good? Holy crud, mama, lock the door because that team is going to win the Super Bowl.
Don't believe the hype. Or not.
A quick scan of opening day results shows some correlation between an early win and success. In 2009, playoff teams went 10-2 on opening weekend. In 2010, it was 8-4, but two of those losses were to other playoff teams.
So maybe all of the hyperbole of the first week lives up to the hype and pretentiousness. They might be on to something there...
