Too Good to Believe

Oh, we wanted this one to be real. We really did. It is the photo of the shark swimming along a street in Puerto Rico due to the flooding of Irene. It is not. We would put a sad face emoticon here, but this blog has standards.

Actually, not to sound high and mighty, but when we at Brett saw the photo on a friend's Facebook page we immediately thought it was faked, but it piqued our interest. Remember the tales of sharks in New Orleans after Katrina? There were a lot of stories from New Orleans that weren't true and this was one of them. We kind of felt this shark was the same. So we did some searching and yep, The Washington Post proved it was taken from a National Geographic photo. Actually, the Post barely broke a sweat proving it wrong because the fakers did a poor job of the scam in the first place. They took one of the first photos of a shark they found on Google Images and slapped it on a street.

So remember if it is too good to believe, it likely is.
