What's next for Egypt?
on Friday, February 11, 2011
After 19 days of turmoil supposedly fueled by modern forms of social media, Egypt's Hosni Mubarak has stepped down as president. It has led to wild cheers in the country, but the question is what happens next?
The truth is no one knows. History gives a 50-50 chance of things getting better for the people of Egypt, but it will take some time for people to get it right. It took seven years for America to actually earn its freedom after declaring it in 1776. And it took another five years before its leaders created a Constitution that actually allowed them to govern.
In a world where a revolution can occur via the Internet, will whoever charges into the void in Egypt be given that long to figure out the answers? Or will it be six months before twitter is again abuzz with revolution.
