Hurray for Nikki Haley
on Wednesday, February 2, 2011
The proposed expansion of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine campus in Greenville was supposed to be heard by the Commission on Higher Education this week. This was going to be a watershed moment in the process that would decide the future of health care in South Carolina.
However, Gov. Nikki Haley has asked the meetings (there were two more in the next few weeks) be delayed until new commission members could be appointed. We say hurray for Gov. Haley on this request and hurray for the CHE to honor it. This is a step in the right direction for South Carolina politics. South Carolina needs to be moving forward, not staying in the muck of the past.
Who knows what the new commission members will decide, but at least they will be able to come in with a clean set of eyes and perspectives. That is what South Carolina needs right now.
