The Primary Debate
on Monday, October 3, 2011
One of the beautiful things about the presidential campaign is the constant jockeying for primary dates. Primaries have now become the ultimate litmus test for candidates and many states hang their hats on them.
South Carolina being one of the main ones -- if not the main. South Carolina Republicans captured the first in the south primary banner in 1980 and have hung on tooth and nail ever since. It is almost comical because every four years Florida Republican push their primary up a little further just like the rising tide at Edisto. And just like at Edisto, it sends Republicans scurrying for new ground.
In 2012, Republicans will go to the polls on January 21 to decide who will lead the GOP in November. That is a full month sooner than the 2000 primary. Failure in the Palmetto State has been the nail in the coffin for pretenders for 30 years now. But is failure to not have the first Southern primary in S.C. a nail in the coffin for the state GOP?
That may be the true primary debate.
