Grading politicians

One of the quirkier things that have popped up in recent years is report cards for politicians. The idea stemmed from the notion that if kids can get graded why not grade the guys and gals who are basically holding the purse strings for education. So politicians get graded by anybody and everybody on everything that doesn't matter.

In South Carolina, Gov. Nikki Haley and the state Senate Democratic Caucus both handed out grades for each other Monday. Guess what? They all basically failed each other. Sure, Haley gave an A here and there to some Democrats and the ever-magnanimous and classy Democrats gave Haley Fs across the board except in "hypocrisy and pay-to-play politics." They gave her As. Way to be progressive and work toward a better South Carolina.

Personally, I would love to see the politicians take real tests and see what their grades are on what matters. Like, can they balance a budget? Do they know what the state unemployment rate is? Do they know how to fix it? How many kids go to bed every night in South Carolina hungry? How many bad bridges are in South Carolina?

I wonder how they would do on that test. Oh, wait, they are supposed to be doing that as lawmakers now. Maybe grading politicians really means voting them out.
