I own a watch
on Thursday, July 7, 2011
I own a watch. I seriously do own a watch. It sits on a shelf in my office in a little box. It was a college graduation present from my parents. I don't think I have ever worn it for more than a few minutes. It's not that I don't like it or even appreciate it...it's just I don't like wearing a wristwatch.
Actually, it's not just wristwatches. I don't wear a watch when running which concerns many of running partners. They ask how I know how well I am doing. I tell them my body just knows. They look at me incredulously. To tweak them a little, I add that I just here them holler their times and that keeps me in pace. They don't like that.
Well, it turns out that watches are back. According to the New York Times, "The 'sundial; of the wrist is experiencing an uptick among members of the supposed lost generation, particularly by heritage-macho types in their 20s and 30s who are drawn to the wristwatch’s retro appeal, just as they have seized on straight razors, selvedge denim and vintage vinyl."
Hipsters like watches now. Well, I own a watch. I just won't wear it. I'm not a hipster.
