The decline of the illegal immigrant?

The New York Times had a fascinating story this morning about the supposed end of illegal immigration -- you know the supposed societal problem that has been the cause of every American problem in the past decade.

Basically, less than 100,000 Mexican crossed illegally in 2010. That was the lowest ratio since Leave it to Beaver was in first-run on television. The reasons given are myriad, and we believe a little skewed. The article states that increased border patrols, heightened anti-immigration laws and a poor U.S. economy are just ancillary factors to the decline.

The real reason, according to people interviewed by the Times, is that Mexico has gotten so much better that people don't want to leave. Or maybe there is a third reason? The people who have already illegally immigrated are already in the United States and there aren't just that many Mexicans who want to move.

It is an interesting question...why is there a decline of the illegal immigrant.
