California, we have a problem

Let me get this straight...a guy in California wants to split off 13 counties surrounding the Riverside area and form a new state? Yes, it would appear to be the case for the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, who are allowing one of its five members Jeff Stone to pursue a meeting in the fall.
It is an extreme long shot of happening and it is really nothing new, according to a story in the Christian Science Monitor. There have been at least 220 attempts to cordon off parts of California since the mid-1800s.
This is a political ploy. Instead of working together for a better state, Stone wants to cut of a Republican chunk of it and make his own. Isn't there something better these people can be working on?
