The Odd Jobs Report
on Friday, May 6, 2011
The private sector keeps adding jobs. That is a good thing, according to the latest Department of Labor report, which showed 244,000 salaried jobs were added nationwide in April. But somehow unemployment rose as well...from 8.8 percent to 9 percent. Now, we here at Brett have never claimed to be math wizards or even math apprentice wizards, but something about those numbers to not mesh. If jobs are up, shouldn't unemployment be down?
Go back to the first sentence. The private sector has added jobs. The public sector is still losing people at large rates as many cities, counties and school districts slash jobs because of budget cuts, according to the New York Times.
It's the odd jobs report.
