The Next Wave?

One of the beauties of the public relations world is that sometimes a person representing a company speaks out of line, and it is the job of the p.r. staff to mend fences, pick up the pieces and the like.

The New York Yankees public relations team might want to get its tools ready. After decades of crazy statements from owner George Steinbrenner on everything from firing managers, ripping into players and insulting staff, the Yankees became a relatively quiet ship to run in terms of a sports team during the past few years. But with George Steinbrenner gone, it appears his son Hank is taking up the family legacy.

According to the Associated Press, Hank (we can call him Hank, can't we?) said the team faltered in 2010 because too many of the players spent the previous off-season building mansions instead of focusing on repeating as World Series champs. Hank added a memorable kicker to the quote: "I have no problem saying that."

Wow, it seems like the next wave of crazy sports ownership has hit the Bronx. I hope their public relations staff is ready for it.
