A New Day in South Carolina

South Carolina will have a new governor today as well as a host of other elected statewide officials. We at Brett wish the best of luck to Nikki Haley, Ken Ard, Mark Hammond, Curtis Loftis, Alan Wilson, Hugh Weathers, Richard Eckstrom and Mick Zais in the next four years. You face an empirically difficult task. Problems abound and people will not be afraid to tell you that. But there are many positives to remember. South Carolina is resilient. South Carolina is strong. South Carolina has pride.

Remember you were elected by a group of people, but you serve all of the people. That is a tough thing for many elected officials to remember, and one that you will be tempted to forget. For the sake of South Carolina, do not forget that. The ones on the outside need you as much as the ones on the inside. Reach out to them. Reach out to all of South Carolina and you will be surprised by the response.

The question is how do you want to be remembered after four years? Do you want to be just another set of elected officials who pushed through the status quo? Good people who couldn't overcome? Or do you want to be remembered as leaders? The group that pushed South Carolina to be strong? Pushed past the rhetoric and the blame game? Fought to make this state great?

You have the ability to do either. We encourage you to do both.

It's a New Day in South Carolina.
