Has the South risen yet?

Here is an interesting tidbit from today history. In 1861, this was the first time someone promised publicly that the South will rise again. According to this article in the New York Times, Alfred Iverson, a U.S. Senator from Georgia, made the assertion during an impassioned speech as he left the Senate because of his state's recent secession. Iverson said that no matter what happened in the ensuing chaos -- he predicted war -- the South would continue to rise and rise again.

After 150 years, has the South risen yet?
