Catching the Spotlight
on Wednesday, June 1, 2011
Lord, save us from writing this blog today? Ok, you won't well here we go. We are the Brett Banter Blog and we read a story about Paris Hilton this morning and are now writing about it. That wasn't so bad. Ok, it was. I could use another drink right about now.
Hilton is one of those interesting creatures in the world of "celebrity." She rose to fame a decade ago as a "socialite." Historically, socialites have the shelf life of a 24-hour stomach flu, but somehow Hilton just stayed in the spotlight while her cohorts washed away to oblivion in bottles of cheap booze and cheaper dye jobs. Why? The New York Times kind of hinted at it today by saying she has a knack for self promotion. Maybe. Tough to say. She somehow caught a spotlight and never left despite having no definitive skills except being an idiot with a lot of money. She is actually not as dumb as she appears and maybe that is the trick? People relate to her. She can dumb her self down and succeed. There is a generation of people out there who see that as the ultimate goal.
Hard work and sacrifice are nice, but if you could be catching the spotlight for being a fool...that's golden baby.
