All that glitters...

Our main blogger John grew up in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia is in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia has long kept a prop from the movie Rocky standing. The prop was the statue of Rocky Balboa with his arms extended in a "winner's pose." John has long been convinced that people in Philadelphia believe Rocky is true story because of the statue. They say, "hey I saw dem put dat statue up in the movie. And it's still there. It must be true."
Where is this going? A story broke yesterday about Kareem Adbul-Jabbar being very miffed that there is no statue of him in Los Angeles. Look, we loved "Airplane," but Kareem really doesn't need a statue for playing Roger Murdoch. Oh, wait, he wants it for, you know, leading the Lakers to five NBA championships and being considered the greatest center in basketball history. We can dig that.
But aren't we getting a little carried away with all of this? There are statues in the works for Cam Newton, Tim Tebow and Nick Saban throughout the South. Isn't that a little premature? Shouldn't we make sure they don't do something really bad in the next few years that could bring a bad light on that statue? It has happened with road names. Cincinnati had a Pete Rose Way in the 1980s. It was renamed when he was banned from organized baseball. What happens if Tebow or Newton get tarnished?
Of course, this blog would not be complete without the strangest statue to a person we could find. It really puts Philly to shame. It actually makes John feel bad for all the crap he talks about Philly and the Rocky statue.
Milwaukee has a statue of Henry Winkler aka The Fonz aka a fictional character in a show set in Milwaukee. All that glitters...
