Happy 200th Post

Ok, so we are the only one who has been counting how much we post, but still we reached 200 today. What does that mean? Likely, that our main blogger John has nothing better to do today so he is writing about a nice round number of a post.

The number 200 isn't normally one of those "celebrated numbers" like 100, 500 or 1,000, but we beg to differ. The Bicentennial rocked in 1976, and Wayne Gretzky is the only NHL player to score 200 points in a season. Richard Petty won a lot of 200 races to become the King of NASCAR, while the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley would have stopped eating peanut butter and banana sandwiches to weight 200 pounds at the end. If we were Rolling Stone magazine, we would rank our 200 greatest issues featuring the Grateful Dead.

Two hundred hits in a season is a major milestone in baseball, while the three players with exactly 200 home runs are notable. Bill Freehan may have been the best catcher in the American League in the 1960s, Don Mincher was a colorful member of the Seattle Pilots before becoming president of the AA Southern League and Oscar Gamble may have had the greatest afro in baseball history. Maybe in all of sports.

In football, if a player rushes for 100 yards in a game, he is great. If he gets 200, he is a legend. The same is true of receiving yards. So, we like 200. Bring on 200. Long live the great 200.
